Fujitsu bets on Management and Engineering students

Global Management Challenge is an innovative way to develop the knowledge and skills of our employees It is also an opportunity to discover management potential among young talents.

During the test, participants work as a team and learn how to manage a company.

The Global Management Challenge 2024 starts in May and Fujitsu Portugal will support the participation, in this edition, of 10 student teams, particularly from the Engineering and Management areas. The objective of this company, by sponsoring the competition and supporting these teams, is to be closer to the academic world, where it recruits talent.

For Alexandre Ferreira, general director of Fujitsu Portugal, “the Global Management Challenge is a relevant channel for materializing proximity to universities and polytechnic institutes, demonstrating our differentiated approach in terms of the ability to integrate tech talent into missions and projects that respond to challenges in areas of innovation or business management”. From his perspective, this strategy and management challenge, organized by Expresso and SDG, develops skills such as teamwork, the ability to foresee problems and interpret complex data in different dimensions of corporate and business reality, which contributes to practical training of students and staff.

This simulation at the GMC presents management experiences and challenges that are transversal to the lives of organizations.

“Competitions such as the Global Management Challenge can simulate, with great realism and relevance, management experiences and challenges that are transversal to the lives of organizations and can prepare participants to overcome challenges that they will face in the job market”, highlights Alexandre Ferreira. And if, he says, students have some of the skills developed in this test well worked on, “they will be an added value for the companies where they work”.

Manuel Carvalho, José Pedro Antunes, Tiago Neves, Martim Abecassis and João Le Coroller, from the areas of Aerospace Engineering, Engineering and Data Science, Economics, Civil Engineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering, form the Fujitsu/Antinozes team. They participated last year with the support of Fujitsu and, as their team was the one that reached the furthest in the competition among those supported by this company, they can count on support again this year.

The skills developed in this test prepare students for the job market

“We are excited to participate in the Global Management Challenge again. The previous experience was extraordinarily enriching, allowing us to apply our theoretical knowledge in a practical context. This year we hope to further deepen our management, analysis and financial planning skills, which, combined with experience, will allow us to obtain better results”, explains Martim Abecassis, from the Fujitsu/Antinozes team. The ability to carry out economic and financial analyses, complemented with the ability to make strategic decisions, understanding and knowledge in the areas of management, economics and finance and project management and teamwork are skills developed by the members of this team. Martim Abecassis believes that they are important for both those who study and those who already work.

To this team and the others taking part in this 45th edition, Alexandre Ferreira advises, in order to be successful, “to work as a team, to have a good ability to adapt to new scenarios, to promote debate and diversity of ideas, capitalizing on the strengths of different members to respond assertively to the business challenges that will be presented to them”.
