After Luanda, it is New Delhi’s turn to host an event that will be contested by around 20 countries.

The organization of the Global Management Challenge chose the city of New Delhi, India, to host the international final of the 2023 edition, which will bring together from September 25th to 27th this year, national champions from around 20 countries, including be Portugal. Among the newcomers are Chile and Peru.

This will be the first time that India will host this international event. João Matoso Henriques, CEO of SDG, a company that has been organizing this competition for over 40 years in partnership with Expresso, says that “we have always tried to innovate when it comes to the Global Management Challenge and holding the international final in a country for the first time is always an goal. It is important to be aligned with the DNA of this competition, which is to take good management practices and skills development to new places and try as much as possible to promote networking and contact between participants and different cultures”. The event will feature around 20 countries and will always take place in the year following the edition in question. Although the Global Management Challenge is played in more than 30 countries, not all of them are part of the international finals. Chile and Peru are the countries that will participate for the first time in this stage.

For Lav Agarwal, organizer of the competition in India, “hosting the international final is a great opportunity for the development of the Global Management Challenge in our country. We will welcome participants to New Delhi, a large city with a very rich historical and cultural presence.” He remembers that New Delhi has UNESCO heritage sites and that the Taj Mahal is about 200 kilometers away. He also recommends that participants try Indian cuisine, as the city is known for its street food.

Five thousand participants

The 2023 Indian edition was contested by 1284 teams, of which 1024 were made up of university students and the remaining 260 were made up of company staff. “It was a great success, as we registered more than five thousand participants for the first time. The winner of the edition was a team of students”, reveals Lav Agarwal. In his opinion “the Global Management Challenge is a strong management development tool that has gained wide recognition in India. From universities to large companies, everyone accepts this competition as a way of training young managers with the necessary skills to work in today’s competitive world”.

And while India prepares the international final, registrations for the 45th edition that starts on the 21st will close in Portugal on the 13th. João Matoso Henriques explains that “whenever a new edition begins, we aim to exceed the number of participants in the which in this case was 480 teams. We also want to have a greater number of regions in the country participate and cover as much of the interior as possible.”

Created in Portugal in 1980, this competition has been competed over the years, both by university students and professionals. “Its reputation in the national territory is great and it has been a platform recognized for many years for the quality of the experience it provides to participants”, highlights the CEO of SDG. He adds that “both companies and students know they can count on this skills development tool that promotes networking and rapprochement between the academic and corporate worlds”.
